Oil and Maintenance Guide for 2012 Honda FourTrax Recon 229
Before You Service the Engine
Before servicing the 2012 Honda FourTrax Recon 229, confirm the lubricant requirements and prepare to verify the final fluid level. Use the proper level-check method for this machine, and verify product suitability instead of relying on a catalog name alone.
How much oil does a 2012 Honda FourTrax Recon 229 take?
The available engine-oil capacity figure is 1.59 quarts. The amount added during a routine drain may differ from the listed capacity; use the correct level-check procedure when refilling.
Why does four-stroke engine oil need the right application rating?
Engine oils differ in additive packages and friction characteristics. Some powersports engines share oil with a wet clutch or transmission, so matching the manufacturer’s oil requirements matters in addition to viscosity. This listing does not by itself confirm the clutch design.
