New for 2001, The 5.7-liter LS1 V8 upgraded power increase to 310 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque for the Z28 and to 325 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque with the SS package.
Average city gas mileage: 17 to 18

Many people had complaints of oil consumption with the LS1 engine. I bought one of these cars myself in August of 2001 and also had bad oil consumption when I used Mobil 1 synthetic 5W-30. I was burning a full quart of oil every 1,000 miles. People told me to have the engine rebuilt under warranty. I told them they were nuts and that there was no way that I wanted to have a brand new engine torn down. I learned about Amsoil at a Camaro car club when I lived in Missouri. I tried the Amsoil 5W-30. I drove several thousand miles on this oil and had no oil consumption whatsoever. At the same time I had 4.10:1 gears instead in the rear-end which would normally make oil consumption worse since the RPMs would rev higher. Even with the 4.10:1 gears, I had no oil consumption.
The oil worked out so well in this car, this became the deciding factor of making me an Amsoil dealer. I have had nothing but positive experiences with all of Amsoils products. With the 3+ MPG increase in fuel economy I am getting now, it would cost me more money in fuel lose to switch to some other oil. The increase in fuel economy for my Z28 more than pays for the oil many times over. The fuel savings make Amsoil costing me nothing. The only people who do not use Amsoil are the ones who do not know about it.
