published by SearchForParts.com on October 16th, 2022

The Chevrolet Silverado is a full-size pickup truck that is produced by Chevrolet. The Silverado name was first used in 1999 for the 2000 model year when the former C/K line of trucks was renamed. The Silverado has been produced through four generations. The fourth generation began production in 2013 and continues to be produced as of 2020. The Silverado is Chevrolet’s answer to the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500.

The first generation of the Chevrolet Silverado was produced from 1999-2006. This generation saw the introduction of the ” GMT800″ platform, which would be used for the next two generations as well. The GMT800 platform introduced new styling, more power, and improved safety features over the previous generation.

Comparing the 2020 Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 Trucks

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is a light-duty truck that is perfect for everyday driving and light work. With a towing capacity of 13,300 pounds and a payload of 2,280 pounds, this truck is highly versatile and capable. The standard engine is a 4.3L EcoTec3 V6, but there is also an optional diesel engine that gets great highway fuel economy.

The Chevy Silverado 2500 is a heavy-duty truck that is built for more intense hauling needs. With a towing capacity of 18,510 pounds and available engines like the 6.6L Gas V8 or Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8, this truck can handle whatever you throw at it.

The Chevy Silverado 3500 is the most capable of the three, with a towing capacity of 36,000 pounds and a segment-first Advanced Trailering System. If you need a truck that can handle the most serious workloads, the Silverado 3500 is the way to go.

2020 Silverado 1500 Pickup Oil Types

The 2020 Silverado 1500 has three recommended oil types. They are:

  • Signature Series 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil*
  • XL 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil*
  • OE 0W-20 Synthetic Motor Oil*
  • 5W- 30 Synthetic Motor Oil
*(0w-20 Diesel Oil for the 3.0L LM2 Diesel Fuel Turbo)

If your engine is a 2.7, or 4.3L then 5W-30 is recommended with an oil capacity of 6 quarts. All others such as the 5.3 and 6.2 L engine 0W-20 is recommended with a capacity of 8 quarts. The 3.0L LM2 Diesel Fuel Turbo will need 0w-20 diesel oil and the capacity is 7 quarts.

Always check the dipstick oil level when changing your oil to see if the proper level is achieved. Engines can vary in trucks and with so many engine types this is a good rule of thumb to check the level before starting any vehicle. See the section a bit down for the 2500 and 3500 oil types and capacities.
